Valley Forge Military Academy and College Sued for Allowing Physical, Sexual and Emotional Abuse of Student
Laffey, Bucci & Kent represent John Doe who suffered traumatic abuse at Philadelphia-area military school – other victims urged to come forward
PHILADELPHIA (April 18, 2019) – Today, Philadelphia attorneys Brian Kent and Stewart Ryan of Laffey, Bucci & Kent, LLP announce the filing of a lawsuit against Valley Forge Military Academy and College (VFMAC) on behalf of their client, John Doe. The plaintiff suffered traumatic and devastating physical, sexual and emotional abuse while enrolled at the internationally known military school located in Delaware County, Pa.
The lawsuit seeks to hold VFMAC accountable for failing John Doe and other students by exposing them to easily avoidable cruelty and mistreatment. In filing suit, Doe and the law firm of Laffey, Bucci & Kent seek to compel transparency about what is believed to be a large number of other instances of abuse that have been hidden away on the campus of the secretive boarding school. The lawsuit alleges that the physical, sexual and emotional abuses being perpetrated on the campus of VFMAC were known to those at the top of the institution, including embattled Board of Trustees President John English.
According to attorney Stewart Ryan, “During his time at VFMAC, John Doe was repeatedly and viciously abused by other students.” He said, “VFMAC was aware of the worst aspects of this abuse and did nothing to stop it from happening or protect its students from known predators and violent traditions entrenched in the history of the school.”
Ryan said, “Perhaps the worst of the abuses occurred during one evening when our client, then 17-years-old, was cornered in a dormitory room and savagely tortured. He was repeatedly struck, beaten with various objects, and even waterboarded.” The Complaint, filed by Kent and Ryan, alleges that Doe was also subject to “tooth pasting,” a VFMAC “tradition” in which cadets attempt to sodomize male victims over the clothes with foreign objects, in this case with a lacrosse stick.
