Many people believe that rear end accidents are not serious. This simply is not true. Rear end truck accidents are often fatal. In fact, earlier this week, a rear end truck accident in Delaware caused the death of a young boy.

Delaware Rear End Truck Accident Kills Young DE Boy

According to an online news report, this Monday, a young boy who was a passenger in a small car was killed when the car was rear ended by a large commercial truck. Traffic was slowing down due to road construction. The driver of the large truck may have failed to slow down properly and struck the rear of the vehicle, sending it off the road. The truck then continued on and struck four additional cars. Source: delaware.newszap.com, “Boy, 7, dies in multi-vehicle crash north of Smyrna”

Other passengers of the same vehicle which was initially rear ended survived the accident and were taken to Christiana Hospital. The drivers of the other four cars were also transported to Christiana Hospital. The truck driver was uninjured.

Why Rear End Truck Accidents are Often Fatal

Due to the size of large commercial trucks, a rear impact often results in extensive damage to the car in front. In rear end truck accidents at high speeds, the front vehicle often becomes smashed up under the hood of the truck. This is why rear end truck accidents end in fatalities, or at the very least, serious and catastrophic injuries.

In addition, it is important to note that when traveling at high speeds, trucks need additional time to slow down. Sudden stopping simply isn’t feasible for a large commercial truck or semi-trailer truck. Road construction, traffic, car accidents, etc. requiring trucks to come to a sudden stop may result in a truck rear end accident.
