Just after Thanksgiving last year, a physician’s assistant in California pled guilty to multiple child sex abuse charges.
According to a press release by the San Diego FBI, Brandon Schroth was charged with multiple counts of child sex abuse (http://www.fbi.gov/sandiego/press-releases/2012/former-navy-physicians-assistant-pleads-guilty-to-sexual-exploitation-and-sexual-abuse-of-minors-under-age-12, 11/29/12).
Schroth was charged with violating the following federal laws: Title 18, U.S.C. Section 2251 (a) (c) and (e)—sexual exploitation of a child and Title 18, U.S.C. Section 2241(c)—aggravated sexual abuse of a child under 12.
Schroth’s arrest was the result of extensive investigation by the Department of Justice. Project Safe Childhood and the Innocent Images National Initiative are the products of joint agency collaboration and investigation which combat child porn and child sexual exploitation.
Schroth was initially investigated after a computer in Denver revealed Schroth in images depicting child pornography. At the time of his arrest, Schroth was a physician’s assistant. During the course of the case, prosecutors identified additional producers of child pornography and rescued 35 additional child victims. Schroth faces up to life in prison and will be sentenced next month.
