PHILADELPHIA (September 5, 2019) –The attorneys at Laffey, Bucci & Kent represent a victim who suffered sexual abuse by Archdiocesan former priest Fr. Francis X. Trauger and Fr. John P. Schmeer. The victim courageously came forward, and wishes to remain anonymous. He alleges that Trauger and Schmeer abused their positions of trust and authority as priests to sexually assault him in Pennsylvania and New Jersey when he was a young child.
The victim is represented by sex crime victims’ attorneys Brian Kent and Stewart Ryan. Their goal is to ensure that no others endure sexual assault at the hands of Trauger and Schmeer, both of whom are still alive. Trauger and Schmeer are alleged to have sexually abused multiple children throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey, even taking children to a home located on the New Jersey shore where the priests sexually abused them.
The Bucks County District Attorney, Matthew Weintraub, this week charged Trauger with indecent assault stemming from reports of two other victims who alleged they were sexually abused by Trauger when they were children in Bucks County. The alleged crimes took place at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Levittown, Pennsylvania.
Trauger and Schmeer have previously been named by Grand Jury reports investigating the rampant history of child sexual abuse within the Catholic Church and the cover-up by the Church that ensued. Trauger and Schmeer were given assignments throughout the Philadelphia Archdiocese, which includes Bucks County, Chester County, Delaware County, Montgomery County, and Philadelphia County, exposing these known predators to hundreds if not thousands of innocent and vulnerable children.
