Criminal and civil trial attorney Guy D’Andrea has filed suit on behalf of Philadelphia resident Julian V. Domanico in the wake of Domanico’s brutal, unprovoked assault by a bouncer at a city nightclub.

Domanico is suing the LGBT venue, Voyeur Nightclub, after he was assaulted by one of the nightclub’s security guards in April 2019. The guard, Michael J. Mapp, was convicted in January of assault. Now, Domanico is filing a civil suit against his employer, Voyeur Nightclub. Filed in Philadelphia Common Pleas Court, the suit accuses the nightclub and a security contractor of failing to adequately vet Mapp, who has a criminal record and history of assault.

An experienced trial attorney who handles physical and sexual assault cases nationwide, D’Andrea told Philadelphia Gay News that LGBT patrons expect to feel safe in an LGBT venue.

“What happened to Julian completely shattered that concept” of safety, D’Andrea said. “To be assaulted in an LGBTQ property is going to have a long-term traumatic impact on him, as it would for any other person.”

“When you have someone who has no problem physically attacking a patron for no reason — that’s something that could happen to anyone,” D’Andrea continued. “This is not how a civilized society is supposed to operate.”
