Two Pennsylvania Organizations – Dedicated to Helping Injured Workers and Their Families

With a few weeks left in the year, now is the time to make donations to local non-profits. Please consider donating to two organizations which help families of injured workers.

Tailgating for Trades

Laffey, Bucci & Kent work accident lawyers are keen on giving back to the community. Firm founder Jeff Laffey is the proud son of a union carpenter who prides himself on having been raised on the “union dime.” Immediately after graduating law school, Jeff began crusading for workplace safety and the legal rights of injured workers in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Two years ago, Jeff co-founded an organization dedicated to helping injured workers. In 2012, together with another Philadelphia work accident lawyer, Jeff founded Tailgating for Trades (T4T). T4T helps injured workers throughout the Philadelphia region by providing financial assistance for injured workers.

Funding for this organization comes from an annual fundraiser held each March; 100% of all proceeds from the T4T fundraiser go to the injured worker fund. Read more about Tailgating for Trades. To donate, please call Jennifer Keenan-Keil at (866) 641-0806.

Kids’ Chance of Pennsylvania

Kids’ Chance of PA is a unique organization that specifically helps children of workers who are either killed in work related accidents or have suffered career-ending, catastrophic injuries.

Founded in 1997, the organization provides much  needed scholarships to families which have lost income due to a work related accident. This organization is one of many around the country.

Since its inception in 1997, the organization has awarded over $1,000,000 in scholarships. In the last 5 years alone, the organization has provided approximately $500,000 in scholarships. The average scholarship amount per year is over $2,000. In the 2013-2014 fiscal year, over 50 scholarships were awarded totaling close to $200,000.

Funding for Scholarships

Kids’ Chance of Pennsylvania obtains funding for its scholarship program through contributions and fund raising events. Each year, in September and October, there is a 5k run in Harrisburg, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. The race in Philadelphia is held in Fairmount Park. In addition, Kids’ Chance holds an annual golf outing at the Hershey Country Club in Hershey, PA. The next golf fundraiser is scheduled for May 31, 2015.
